3In 2025, I had the honour of accepting the position of Chair for the Quinte Conservation Board of Directors. Over this time, I have had the privilege of collaborating with a talented team of Board Members, expert staff, and dedicated volunteers and supporters %u2014 each contributing to our shared goal of protecting the health of our watershed and preserving the natural green spaces cherished by our community.Since becoming a Board Member, I have learned many fascinating facts about the Quinte Watershed and even added a few fun new words to my vocabulary, including freshet, karst geology, turtley awesome, and #eekology (a blend of Halloween and nature).Throughout 2025, we faced several challenges: a lack of rainfall leading to drought conditions, ongoing concerns about invasive species on both land and water, and a provincial announcement on October 31 outlining plans to consolidate Ontario%u2019s 36 Conservation Authorities into seven regional branches.Despite these challenges, we also celebrated many successes, including conservation area improvements at Sidney, impactful student outreach and education initiatives, the operation of a mobile boat-cleaning station across the watershed, and the full rehabilitation of the pollinator meadow at South Potter%u2019s Creek.On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff, we welcome you to explore and enjoy our many natural areas for a well-deserved dose of wellbeing.Live long & prosper,Don KuntzeDon Kuntze, ChairQuinte Conservation Board of Directors
